Team building, a serene business climate, a positive work environment are the ‘ingredients’ of a successful company that increase the productivity of managers and employees.
A positive and peaceful work environment improves workers’ well-being, therefore productivity and profits.
A good corporate climate is what helps to ensure that, in the morning, you can happily go to work.
The corporate climate is also a predictor of work-related stress: the worse the climate, the worse the distress present among workers will be.
In the company, human relationships play an important part in the concept of climate: from the relationship with one’s boss to that with colleagues, from perceiving a collaborative and supportive context to the low level of conflict present.
The creation of a good working environment, from all points of view (let’s not forget that, in this sense, issues that could be considered secondary, such as, for example, the architecture and furnishing of offices, also play their part) Is a fundamental task if you have the company’s interests at heart.
And in order to do this, it is necessary to identify a whole series of characteristics that make the workplace a truly favorable environment for the expression of the potential of each worker.
This is what we will try to do below, starting with identifying those key factors that allow us to evaluate the corporate climate.
How to improve the business climate
Given the importance that the relational component has in determining a good corporate climate, if we want to improve the climate, we must first of all try to develop good relationships, both vertical and horizontal.
This implies two first points of attention:
- Develop interpersonal, communication and teamworking skills;
- Create organizational spaces where good relationships are rewarded.
Another useful perspective is to consider not only the existing relationships between workers, but also between the person and his work and the person and his company.
In fact, the climate includes considerations about the satisfaction I have from my work, as well as how much I feel belonging to my organization.
Consequently, all initiatives aimed at increasing the motivation and participation of employees contribute to improving the climate.
The analysis of the company climate
Who knows how many times we find ourselves consulting the weather forecast on our smartphone? We do it because knowing the weather conditions allows us to organize ourselves better and avoid being ill-equipped for the weather that awaits us out there.
The same is true, or should be true, for the corporate climate: knowing that the “wind is blowing” in our company allows us to better face organizational weather conditions and reduce the inconvenience they entail.
The tool to know the state of our organization is, in fact, the climate analysis.
It is normally conducted through a general collection of information about people’s perceptions of their work, their organization and their organizational relationships.
Different tools can be used to carry out such an analysis, the important thing is to respect some criteria that increase its effectiveness:
- Communication: it is a question of explaining well the purpose of the investigation, its methods, the use that will be made of it;
- Execution: it is important to guarantee everyone the possibility of answering sincerely, therefore we will have to put in place a transparent device that guarantees the confidentiality of the data collected, as well as the privacy of those who respond;
- Restitution: it is important to give feedback to our employees about the results obtained, in particular by demonstrating to them that the company has the will to intervene in a positive way.
Teamwork, the key to a positive atmosphere
A work environment that encourages employees to undertake collaborative projects and work as a team is always good for the company, as workers are more willing to engage with their colleagues and maintain a constructive relationship with them.
Furthermore, many studies have shown that happiness is contagious, so if we are in a healthy and positive work environment, the “good mood” will spread throughout the workplace like a fire.
to have a good working environment, it is important to have at least 70% of the following options. And if not, it’s time to rethink your workplace or seek help from HR:
- An open and communicative environment that encourages teamwork.
- Aid to workers, suitable for each person: job promotion, wage increases, help in reconciling family life, etc …
- That allows you to personalize your space, be it with photos, plants, motivating images or whatever you decide.
- Empathy and understanding: that your superiors listen to you and want you to be satisfied.
- Perceive that your opinion is valid.
- That collaborative work is allowed to improve points of view.
- That stimulates creativity.
- Feeling that you will be able to continue learning.
- The space accompanies your well-being: it has natural light, is neat, clean and tidy.
- When you are very stressed, you can find practical solutions that improve your situation.
Building a good business climate to work better
We said at the beginning that a good corporate climate helps to make us go to work willingly; developing an environment characterized by a good climate is an important factor for our motivation.
For this we will have to work both in the direction of developing good boss-employee relationships and building collaborative skills.
Team building experiences could facilitate the pursuit of both these directions: building a group oriented towards the empowerment of its members, led by an empowering leader, capable of playing the role of coach towards its collaborators is certainly a way to promote a positive business climate. and energizing.
